One of the most popular day trips is to Loch Fyne and then to the beautiful seaside town of Oban. Inveraray Castle in Inveraray is a popular tourist attraction as is the Inverary Jail. History lovers come here to explore the ancient ruins and evidence of people living here many centuries ago. You can walk in their footsteps and try to imagine what it must have been like for the Picts in battling the Norse raiders and the Roman invaders. The scenic beauty of the area around Loch Fyne, combined with the sight of dolphins and seals in summer, is one that will remain in your memories long after you return home. The area was well known for its market towns in medieval time, with Inveraray dating back to 1453.
On route to Inverary you will find the Wold Famous Cairndow Oyster Bar & Restaurant serving shellfish and fish dishes. The original Oyster Bar and shop started in a small shed in the lay-by at the head of Loch Fyne in the early 80's then in 1985 moved into the old cow byre at Clachan Farm. It has been listed in the Good Food Guide every year since then. Expect a travelling time to Inverary from Culzean House of around 45 minutes and a further 30 minutes to Oban.
Or, you may wish to venture north-east to Loch Lomond - voted one of Scotland's "most idyllic and unspoilt areas", with the largest expanse of fresh water in Britain and the backdrop of the mountains looming beyond. The National Park headquarters are based here and a host of activities and events are available all year round. Expect a travelling time to Loch Lomond from Culzean House of around 45 minutes.
